FAQs

What is Method Wealth, and what makes it different from a traditional wealth management firm?

Method Wealth is an independent private wealth planning firm. We work as a Virtual Family Office — which means we coordinate all aspects of your financial life and collaborate directly with your CPA, attorney, and other advisors so everything works together. Most firms manage investments. We manage the whole picture, always acting as fiduciaries. There's no proprietary product to sell you, no quota to hit, and no conflict of interest pulling our recommendations in a direction that isn't yours.  Because we are independent, we can truly be your advocate in the marketplace.

Who do you typically work with?

Our clients are entrepreneurs, business owners, and high net worth families — usually people who have built significant wealth ($5M+ in investable assets and $20M+ Net Worth) and are starting to realize that managing it has become a full-time job they didn't sign up for. Many are thinking about a business exit, a major liquidity event, or simply want to know that all the pieces of their financial life are actually working together efficiently.

What does a Virtual Family Office actually mean for me?

It means you have an advisor who sees the whole board. Your CPA knows taxes. Your attorney knows legal structure and documents. Your investment manager knows markets. But without someone coordinating all areas, things fall through the cracks — and that's usually where the most expensive mistakes happen. We sit at the center of your advisory team, make sure everyone is aligned with your goals, and flag what's missing before it costs you.

Do you only work with clients who are selling a business?

No, but business transitions are a significant part of what we do. We work with clients at every stage — from building and protecting wealth inside a business, to planning a sale, to figuring out what life looks like on the other side of a liquidity event. If you're years away from an exit, that's actually the best time to start planning for it. We also work with clients who have just received sudden wealth through an inheritance, divorce, etc.

What's your investment philosophy?

We don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. For most of our clients, their business is already their largest and most concentrated asset — so how we invest beyond that matters a lot. We build plans that account for your full picture: what you own, how you own it, what you need, and what you're trying to accomplish. The goal is always alignment between your investments and your life, not just chasing a benchmark. We believe that our clients should be adequately compensated for the level of risk they take in their portfolio. We believe that successful investing is primarily achieved through controlling risk, costs, taxes, and emotions. We employ both active and passive strategies and also consider alternatives when needed or necessary.

How are you compensated? Are there any conflicts of interest I should know about?

We are fee-based, which means our compensation is transparent and tied to the work we do for you. We are compensated in 3 ways: 1) Flat fee - based on the planning, complexity, and advice needed for your situation. 2) Being your advocate in the marketplace and implementing your desired strategies that support your plan. This could involve managing investments and other products. 3) Personal Introductions – our goal is provide our clients with real value so that they naturally feel inclined to want to introduce us to others who they think we should at least have a conversation with. This is something we need to earn, but it also allows us to focus more on our clients and less on marketing.

We'll always disclose how we’re paid and make sure you understand it before we work together. Independence matters to us, and it should matter to you too.

What does the process look like when someone starts working with you?

It starts with a conversation — no pitch, no pressure. We want to understand where you are, what's keeping you up at night, and whether what we do is actually the right fit for you. If it is, we build a plan together. That plan isn't a one-time document. It’s dynamic and evolves with you as your life changes, your business changes, and your goals change. We will take you through our 7-step process The Method Wealth Blueprint - see Our Process.

How do I know if I'm a good fit for your firm?

If you've built meaningful wealth and feel like you're spending too much time managing it — or worrying that the pieces aren't working together efficiently — it’s definitely worth a conversation. Our clients typically have $5 million or more in investable assets and/or $20 million of more of net worth, but more than the number, what matters is that you're looking for a real thinking partner, not just another account to open somewhere. We are focused on long-term relationships with the right fit, where we are a good fit for you and can bring value to your specific situation. Let's start a conversation today.
